I am in the office for a few hours - although I got here at ten and just started really working. I spent the morning going to Starbucks with the other junior associate in my group and doing productive non-work things like paying bills and ordering accent pillows for my new sectional and dreaming of paint colors for the rest of my house (I have created a monster).

While I was painting there was a knock on the door
It was a neighbor (a tall doctor neighbor) asking me to a New Year’s dinner with him. I can’t go as I have plans (hosting dinner at my house and then a neighborhood bar) but I did give him my number and told him I’d love to go for a drink another time.
Note that I was wearing ancient workout leggings and an ancient tshirt and I had been painting for probably three hours....

I don’t want to be here this week. Hardly anybody IS here this week. But if I am going to have to show up, just know that wearing control top tights or indeed anything resembling a waistband after my Christmas eating is asking too much.

I enticed Mowgli into the office by sitting in...
Mowgli is no longer afraid of the office. I am not sure he was ever afraid of the office. I’m pretty sure he thought if he acted scared I’d feel bad and give him cheese.
This dog uses his intelligence against me all the time. I swear, he spends his life plotting how to convince me to give him cheese and/or peanut butter.
Hmm...
I have moved some furniture around (preparing to sell it) and I started taping my office so I can paint it later in the week. All of this change terrifies Mowgli. He’s sitting in his little room cowering.
Maybe a new beef jerky bone will help matters?

Because he had absolutely horrible mange and a bacterial infection …
Luckily, now he is fully healed and one of the happiest dogs in the land (although perhaps not the most dignified) …

Apparently, I have a sinus infection.
These antibiotics better work quickly so I can regain my appetite in time for Christmas, the best eating day of the year.
I also accidentally opened two Christmas presents for myself today - a black cardigan with gold buttons from J.Crew (dressy enough to put with a tshirt and AG stilts for Jeans Fridays) and a desperately needed black wool pencil skirt, also from J.Crew. My mother is the best!...
Today's Reason I'm Glad I Worked Before Law School
Between college and law school, I spent two years teaching kindergarten in the inner city. Although what I was doing at that point in time, for these purposes, is less important than what I was not doing - which is sticking up for myself with my boss (in ways both big and little). I let her push me around, and yell at me in front of my students, and do all sorts of other things that undermined...

I just screamed like a little girl
Mowgli was sitting beside me on the couch trying to knock my laptop off my lap and generally being a bit of a hoodrat (it’s like he KNOWS I am about to give him a bath) when suddenly, his ears perked and he ran for the door - there was a MONSTER (2-inch) roach on the doorjamb coming in from the cold.

My toast went off without a hitch
By all reports, it was very well received, and I even discovered that the managing partner of my law firm was my uncle’s drinking buddy in college.
And I am sooooo relieved it is over.
I am fighting a cold BUT I got to leave work at 6:30 today (this is ridiculously early for me) and I didn’t even bring work home with me, and now Mowgli and I are snuggled on the couch watching...
T- 1.75 hours
until I give a toast in front of the entire Atlanta office of my law firm.
I think I might throw up.
